Maria Sliwinska

is the International Center for Information Management Systems and Services (ICIMSS) Director.
She was a member of the Library Council serving the Ministry of Culture, and a member of the Scientific Communication Section of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1999 - 2001 she served as a jury member of the ICT Stories Project created by the World Bank (Washington) and InfoDev (International Institute for Communication and Development - The Hague) for assessing information technology projects in South America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. In 1993-1999 she was the Deputy Director of the Nicholas Copernicus University Library in Torun, responsible for its computerisation and modernisation. She was also an initiator and a member of Steering Committee "Coalition for Library with Horizon" and a member of the Organising Committee for the Polish National Union Catalogue (NUKAT). In 1994 she was invited to participate in a historical meeting of library and information services specialists "From Assistance to Co-operation - an Investment for the Future", organised in Strasbourg by the Directorate XIII of the European Commission and the Council of Europe to discuss the development of information in Central and East European countries, and to start co-operation with non EU member states. Ivolved in a number of EC-projects from such programmes as TEMPUS, IVFP, VFP, VIFP, Leonardo da Vinci, and eContent programmes through such projects as: DEDICATE, CULTIVATE-CEE, DELOS-CEE, EXPLOIT, MINERVA, EURIDICE, Training on Stage, eMapps.com, MICHAEL-author of some 80 papers; editing and teaching experience. Delivered number of papers on national and international conferences (among others: Vilnius, Bielefeld, Washington, Strbskie Pleso, Szombathely, Prague, Budapest, Trieste, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Philadelphia, Zagreb, Sofia) and run several sessions (among others in Vilnius, Budapest, Amsterdam).
